Graffiti has existed for centuries in ancient Rome and were produced in the same manner and with the same purposes of ridicule, satire or revenge.
Thanks to YouTube I found online considerable variations of this ancient technique of mocking, supported by Google and other search engines. Trying
YouTube videos with the term beach in the title, I stumbled into seductive
headline "Girl spectacular walks NAKED on the beach !!!!"
The initial presentation was unclear and I wanted to see the entire video. Here it is.
It presented the show (duration 38 seconds) of a female Geotrupes stercorarius (or perhaps Scarabeus sacer) rolling a ball of dung in the sand to be allocated to the first feeding larvae of its progeny.
The quality of the recovery is weak and uninteresting. The joke is ultimately uplifting, even if it tends to punish the morbid curiosity of every blockhead attracted by the title appetizing and tasty.
Why I talk about then? For one reason
Amarcord. I remembered seeing a similar beetle on the beach of Riccione over fifty years ago. At that time a part of the beach was covered with vegetation in many areas and was used as a quarry wilderness of sand to be used as a component of concrete. Many houses and hotels were built after the war by removing the material which today is described by bulldozers to the nourishment of the beach. Then came the sly instead of carters who moved over the shore and quickly uploading sbadilavano small dunes moved by the wind. Their wagons were moved by horses that also provided the raw material for beetles lay their eggs to cool blacks, who flew awkwardly, once completed their task eco-biology.
But, as I already said, are years and years, on the beach of Riccione, I have not seen one of these Dung Beetle, beetles scavengers, already famous and even sacred in ancient Egypt.
