The elegance of canned meat
Happy New Year to all!
To kick off its 2011 I decided to dust one of the outstanding millemila post months and months.
This time it is canned meat, such Manzotin or Simmental.
I came across in the cans of meat Echigo Uonuma 越 后 鱼 沼 in a supermarket for imported products and luxury. In fact a can of meat costs about 600 yen, then 5 € or so.
The luxury of a product is well expressed by the packaging, very different from cheaper, mass found around ... That time
sale were two types: Yamatoni Beef with cylindrical package, and Corned Beef in a rectangular trapezoid.
The background is very clear in salmon pink and is decorated with a lilac floral pattern. At
center, an oval, there is an ox drawn on a background star.
The top of Yamatoni Beef is covered by the coating that is also the side, while on top of Corned Beef is the key to open the metal cans, such as those c ' were on the old boxes of sardines.
In truth, I must confess that the key is that the meat is slightly different from that of sardines, which is hooked (
you link a page with an explanation and a wonderful illustration ).
A special feature is that the brand, which is written in kanji
is spelled backwards. Instead, in order to bring the Echigo Uonuma written, if you read from left to right is out Numauo Goechi. This is because in the early '900, when the Western modernization arrived in Japan, she began to write in horizontal as well as vertically, while maintaining the traditional order of writing in Japanese, or from right to left. Sorry for the convoluted explanation, but in very very poor words left so. So, some brands still maintain older versions of the packages, as a matter of retro elegance and prestige, continues to bear the ancient written in this way.
Unfortunately the company website, the
Foricafoods , this meat is not present among the products. So here Linko
another page where I think we speak a bit '.
I'm sorry, but it's in Japanese. However describes the product talking about the meat that looks like a pudding etc etc ... In addition, under a picture from the side, in the caption, there are some hypotheses about why the star behind the ox. The interesting thing though is that if you click on the scrittina below the first image appear pictures that explain how to open the box with the stick. The images, however, go so fast that I did not understand anything, if anyone can decipher anything is welcome in the comments!
